Chicken with Rice (رز ع دجاج)
Chicken with Rice (رز ع دجاج) is a Lebanese dish that perfectly marries the two ingredients. Served with ground beef meet and pine nuts, it will take your taste buds to a beautiful place through the wonderful tastes of Lebanon.
Equipment
- 2 Pots
- 1 Bowl
- 1 Wooden Spoon
- 1 Cutting Board
Ingredients
- 2 Chicken Thighs
- 1 cup Rice
- 150 grams Ground Beef
- 1 Onion
- 1 Cinnamon Stick
- 2 tbsp Salt
- ¼ tsp Pepper
- 1 tsp Butter
- 1 tbsp Pine Nuts
Instructions
- Place both chicken thighs in a pot filled with water on high heat2 Chicken Thighs
- Close the lid and let the water boil for about 10 mins
- Turn off the heat and remove the chicken thighs in a separate plate
- Fill the pot with new water and place back your chicken thighs
- Add half an onion, a cinnamon stick, 1 tbsp of salt, ¼ of pepper1 Onion, 1 Cinnamon Stick, 2 tbsp Salt, ¼ tsp Pepper
- Place your pot on high heat and close the lid. Once water starts boiling, let the chicken cook for 25 mins
- Afterwards, keep the water for later use to cook the rice
- In the meantime, cut the remaining half of your onion into small cubes1 Onion
- In a separate pot on medium heat, place 1 tsp of butter and spread it across the surface1 tsp Butter
- Once the butter has melted, pour in the sliced onion dices and cook them until golden
- Add the ground beef and divide it into small chunks with your wooden spoon. Keep mixing until well cooked150 grams Ground Beef
- Pour in the pine nuts and cook them for a few mins1 tbsp Pine Nuts
- Add the cup of rice that you previously washed well to the pot1 cup Rice
- Mix well for a couple of minutes while still on medium heat
- Add two cups of water from the cooked chicken to the rice pot
- Add 1 tbsp of salt and stir well for a bit before raising the heat to high
- Once water starts boiling, reduce heat and cover with a lid. Let the rice cook for about 10-12 mins, until the water completely evaporates
- Remove the chicken thighs from the water and place them in a separate plate. Dissect them into big chunks that you will place in a separate bowl
- Take your rice pot and place it over the chicken chunks. Make sure to even the surface with the back of the wooden spoon
- Using a plate, reverse the bowl for a nice presentation, serve and enjoy!

Our Cooking Hints:
- You can replace pine nuts with almonds
- We don’t recommend using chicken breast instead of thighs as the final product would be too dry
